From a Gearspace Comment to Remiq Professional: Working with Charlie Clouser

Sometimes a good collaboration starts with a forum post. For ISINDI, it began with a Gearspace discussion about the free Remiq Lite. Among the people joining the conversation was Charlie Clouser — composer of the SAW film scores, former Nine Inch Nails member, and creator of Hammers with Spitfire Audio.
Charlie saw potential for a more comprehensive sampling tool. The conversation soon moved beyond the forum, and on July 20, 2026, he contacted us directly. He had already purchased the Pro version and was preparing to try it in his own studio.
The following day, he offered to share his experience and help develop Remiq, freely and without any expectation of compensation. His explanation was simple: “I’m just an enthusiast who wants access to better tools hahaha.”
Behind that modest description was extensive hands-on experience. Charlie knew how much work goes into preparing drum libraries: finding each hit, checking sample starts and tails, keeping microphone recordings aligned, organizing dynamic layers, and naming hundreds of files. Those everyday challenges became the focus of our correspondence.
Over the following weeks, test builds travelled back and forth alongside detailed notes and suggestions. Charlie tried real sampling workflows, found awkward moments, and explained why a small interface detail could matter halfway through a long session. We revised the software and sent another build.
The discussions covered everything from retaking individual hits and editing waveforms to velocity layers, round robins, file naming, and sampling virtual instruments. That exchange helped shape Remiq Professional.
Despite the attention to detail, the correspondence never felt formal. Long wish lists came with jokes, and new builds were met with curiosity and enthusiasm. By September, Charlie wrote that the implementation had exceeded his expectations, with solutions cleaner and simpler than those he had originally suggested.
Today, Charlie Clouser is credited in Remiq Professional as a Development Consultant. His contribution reflects months of practical testing, thoughtful feedback, and a shared interest in making sampling less laborious.
His own words capture the result best:
“Remiq Professional has become an indispensable tool for my drum sampling workflow.”
